    The Saratoga and the America were both in Tonkin Gulf in the summer of 72. I went on board looking for a friend.

    They parked Saratoga in Newport RI in the late 90's while they striped parts from her.

    I crossed onboard the USS New Orleans LPH 11 21st of January, 1973

    I crossed during Unitas xx 1979 Onboard USS Dewey DDG-45 & Unitas xx1 1980 Onboard  USS King DDG-41 I I made the Jolly Roger for both ships and I still Have it

    Everything changes and things did go to far at times.I believe that when the Wave's were allowed on the ships the changes started. Wossisifation of the armed services is the name of the game.

    Well Shell back is not what it use to be. Some of those BT's abused others down in the boiler room Pollywog day that  cause others harm on one of the ships that resulted in the death of an shipmate because a greese gun tip was jammed up the hine side which resulted in massive bleeding.

    I remember this when I was on the USS Prairie back then...

    Things can go to far and ruin fun for others.... But I am a shell back so I too can tell the grand kids about it

    I am glad that I am a Shellback. It will be something I can share with my grand kids. I met a sailor who spent 20 years in both shore and sea duty. I asked if he were a Shellback he bowed his head and said"No".
