Crossed the line aboard the USS Mt Katmai..making a port call in Singapre...Skipper at the time was Capt Curtis Loyal Tarbell, USN
I crossed the "line" in December of 1972 after a one week port-stay in Singapore aboard the USS Midway CVA-41. We crossed, I believe it was two days or perhaps three after the Bob Hope Christmas Show that was filmed on the flight deck, where a can of Coke was going for upwards of $5 per can!
I recall picking on the XO of the ship the night before our crossing, and as a result they made me a "special case", but the ijit's that hit us with the fire hoses on the first "station" of torture washed off the red X and I flew through the rest of the initiation even sneaking past the XO who was on the lookout for me...who knew a ceremony like that could be so much 'clean' fun.
I became a trusty Shellback on my first ship, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), while in the I.O. back in 1987!!! I've been beat'in wogs down ever since!!! LOL
I crossed the Equator aboard the USS Meyerkord FF 1058 on December 18th 1981 Latitude 00-00 Longitude 75.2E headed for Diego Garcia
