  • TO CORA SUE FRASER. Get you DAUGHTER A ''shellback' ,cap and coffee mug. Also have her send her certificate home to you,and frame it. I lost all my navy papers, certificates, uniforms,Medals, and certificates in a house fire back in 1967. Fortunatly you can contact the Navy Department (personal records in St Louis,MO). they will send all that stuff to you at no charge. It hight take you a year or more ,but rest assured you'll get them. The "shellback" certificates are available to order on line fromTiffiany Publishing Co,in Norfork VA. There is a small charge (less than $20.00). You'll need the name of the ship she was on when crossing, and the approximate date. They keep records of that kind if stuff. You can get other certificates from them also. They're service is second to none.NO I DON'T WORK FOR THEN OR HAVE ANY TIES TO THEM OTHER THAN ORDERING SOME CERTIFICATES.

  • I became a Golden Shellback on board USS Ramsey FFG-2 on a RimPac in 1987.
I've hears that it has changed some lately. That would be a real loss and shame to a fine tradition.
  • i crossed 2 times aboard uss tingey dd 539 1957 1958
  • I REMEMBER THAT DAY WELL 1989, I WAS DEPLOYED ONBOARD THE USS MARS AFS-1 WITH HC-11 DET 9 AS A CH-46 CREW CHIEF AND RESCUE SWIMMER. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES GUYS.
  • The first time I crossed the equator was on my last westpac in 92 onboard the USS Durham. Being a senior 1st class, I can remember getting beat upon severely. The last time I crossed the equator on a ship was in 2010 onboard the USNS Yukon on the way to Diego Garcia.
  • Well then it is up to the schedule that is in place.

My point being, that it is very difficult to keep a hold of such things when your in the service, especially in the Navy. So when she get backs to her permenant duty station, have her send the certificate to you so that you can get it framed.

I was lucky that I thought to mail the certificate to my parents home, they held onto to for me. Once I got out, I had it framed and I've able to hold onto to it now for 40 years. I believe handling it this way is the best way to preserve your memories. I can tell that you only want the best for your daughter so this is why I suggest this to you.
  • She has already informed us that she will not send us anything till she is off the Carrier and back at Atsugi Naval Air Base in Japan as she is still on Summer Patrol with her Squadron on the USS GW.
  • Mrs. Frazier: Do your daughter a favor and ask her to send you her certificate as soon as she get it and then get in framed for her. That way you given her a way to preserve it.
  • My Daughter age 23, who is my youngest and my Sailor, and she is an Airman crossed the Equater over a month ago and became an Honorable Shellback while on the USS GW Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier(which is based out of Japan) I was wondering ..besides getting her a t-shirt what other gift would be a cool one to send her for christmas in reference to her being a Shellback now??
  • next line is space?
