  • We were the last Ship to transit the canal in 67 The next day the U.A.R. and the Israelies Started their 7 day war ,the next day they had sunk a Ship at port Said and blocked the canal ,which worked out for us ,we ended up escorting the Forrestal back home from her mishap up in the South China sea .We ended up going around the cape of Africa and riding out a storm on the way back to New Port .
  • Transited a total of 4 times (twice each way) on USS Henley DD762 in the early 1960's.

  • Did the ditch during world cruise in 1988 as the throttleman onboard the USS Stien FF-1065. Did it again in 2005 or 2006 onboard the USS Tarawa LHA-1 doing excersises in the MED, went through and back.

  • went thru the ditch with the indy battle group on our way to iran for the hostage crise
  • Was aboard LPH2 USS Iwo Jima in 75 with CH53 Squadron HM-12 aboard that swept for mines prior to the reopening of the canal. Then 7 years later aboard the JFK I actually did the ditch, the first of several.

  • Did the Ditch in '86 with the USS Enterprise!! I remember having to take my contacts out because of all the sand in the air!!

  • Past through the Suez Canal onboard USS Kalamazoo Aor 6 as part of the USS America battle group.  This was during Desert Shield.  Came back through the canal after the completion of Desert Storm.
  • Went through on the USS America 80-81 cruise with VA-95.
  • I made Two World Cruises!
Went through the Suez Canal on board the Uss Kitty Hawk, With VA-147, on World Cruise in 1987, And then on USS Nimitz with CAG-9 (I think it was 1998).
  • I did the Ditch on board USS America (CV-66), southbound in late 1982 and northbound in 1983. Re-enlisted on the flight deck while northbound, underway with sand to port and starboard.
