  • Hi Harpo, I remember you also. It has been awhile, I also belong to the FB Group Page for 49er's as well as the Navy.togetherweserved.com site. Check them out from time to time. What happened to you after 49.

  • I remember Jim Dvorak, our Skipper.  I remember Jim Kotoff as well.  I checked out VP-49 on Facebook.  Great memories just seeing some of the names from the past.  I worked in the Personnel office with PNC Warren Roberts and PN1 Richard Puente.  Since my name is Marks, everyone called me "Harpo".  Hope all my old shipmates are doing well.  God bless you all.

  • The pictures came fro our squadron facebook group page. Steve Temple had most of them. I used to have a copy of the big pick that hung over the door to maintenance control, it disapeared in my transfer pack out.

  • We did it when we came home from both Sigs, the last I know of was 83. The second time was not as involved, we formed up off the coast and did a higher fly by. We landed and waited on each aircraft to land then we taxied up in line together. The skipper as in front of the hanger, the remainer birds sat 4 abreast. The command was given over the Radio to shut down motors, open bomb bays and drop the ladder in unison. I cant believe it has been 30 years since the first formation fly over.

  • Hi All,

James, Great Pics. I have never seen these pics from the cockpit view. I seen the pics from the ground view before. I remember all the hard work from the squadron personnel to get all 9 Aircraft in the air all at the same time and it was a moment to be proud of and something I will never forget. I wonder if it has been duplicated since 1984? I know it was not done while I was there and I left in 1984.

Rob, Yes I do remember R2D2 install and check out. There were only a few of us in the squadron that knew how to R&R them and check them for proper operation. The good old days.

  • Bob was in 49 from 85/86 to early 90. He was on CACs 4 & 8 & worked in NATOPS.

  • When did he wear the woodpecker on his flight jacket?

  • Anyone remember a AD1 (FE) Bob Haumont? He's my "roomie"/significant other. LOL. He retired in 1993 from VP 30, but was in VP - 49 before that.
