  • I was on the Lake from Feb 1998 - July 1999. I was on the Lake in La Maddelena, Sardinis, Italy before we decommissioned her in 1999 at Norfolk Naval Base. It was a sad day to see her be decommissioned. I was part o Deck Dept 2/3. I started off in Deck Dept 2 and was moved to Deck Dept 3.

In her final year we were awarded the Golden Anchor, MUC, NUC, Office EWS completion, Battle E, Armed Forces Expeditionary (spelled wrong sorry). Wish I go back.

  • I was on the Lake from 83-87. I think George Helman left very shortly after I got onboard. There were 2 other PMs at the time. Afirst class by the name of Sullivan and a 2nd that I cant remember his name.Hope everyone is doing well.
  • I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. Stay safe for the rest of the holidays.
  • I worked in the foundry from early 71 until she got to Spain in 72. Then I transferred to the Holland and went back to Charleston.
  • Mark I was on the Lake from 77 to 83. Probably crossed paths. I was in Repair Division. Spent time in the Foundry, Patternshop, Division office and a couple years as a ship sup. Kings Bay was something else back then. We made the chiefs club out of an old army latrine building.
  • I showed up on her in Jan. 81 and rolled off on Columbus Day 83. the early stages of NSSB Kingsbay. The base facilities were all various mobile home trailers, an old run down shack of a club with outdoor laundry along side the club (under a lean to) roof, and dirt roads.
  • I served on her from July 1971 to August 1975. Rode her across the pond to Rota, Spain in November 1972. My family & I thoughly enjoyed our time in Spain.
