  • aldo, what the he>? are we gonna do with you? glad to hear you are okay. nothing new in my world. having a FINE NAVY DAY!!!!!!!!!!
  • Al, I wish you all the best. Take it easy and take care of yourself.
  • Hi all: Two weeks ago I had a bad heart attack and was in the hosp. for four days. They put two more stints in the heart. a total of seven now, and I am back to my regular self. My wife would wish that I would be a little more on the calm side but that just is not me. I do tend to sleep more now though. Well, so much for that. I am now back. Take care, and always know that life is good. Big Al.
  • yeh bruce was a good guy. being a single parent, he would invite me and my son to his get togethers, his wife was real nice to me. nite before i transfered to the stone, him and i got into a car wreck. the molders were giveing me a going away party. i started out driving back to his place but guess i wasn't going fast enough cuz he took over and introduced the scout to a telephone pole. we were both lucky, i left the next day for norfolk, not sure what happened to bruce other then his wife was PISSED!
  • Roxy, You were on the Yellowstone when I was on Shenandoah, I was just a boot molder then, we would come over and barrow patterns a lot. Bruce was crazy when it came to fixing up beater cars. He actually cut 2 cars in half a Mazda and a Nission put them back together and made a MAZION. Funny as shit he ended up selling it to some kid. Bruce was a great guy, fun to party with and would do almost anything for you.
  • Joe, I knew Bruce Champagne, he was just leaving the Yellowstone foundry when I got there in '82 or maybe early '83. I bought his beater 4 door Gran Torino (none of the doors were the same color). He ripped me off and charged me $75.00 and a bottle of Wild Turkey that he referred to as "The Bird". The best part of the car was the bumper sticker that said "Gas Grass or Ass nobody rides for Free" After a year or so I just couldn't take it anymore so I sold it to some knucklehead HTFN for $50.00 and a bottle of Bacardi. Long live Bruce Champagne I did alot of crazy shit in his car.
  • I'm pretty sure I new MLC McCalla at SIMA (DATC/FMAGPAC) in the late 70's. I'd need a picture to be sure, but I think he was working at the school while I was working at the base foundry in San Diego.
  • the chief i worked for in groton was mlc mccalla (pretty sure). he was always asking for a ride to the cpo mess/lunch and would never be in the foundry alone. he had bad scars on his neck, said he forgot to open the valve of a small bottle (co2) when he was melting it down at his home. (guess he had a hobby foundry).
  • One of the sub tenders I was stationed on even did the real jobs on a comshaw basis. Mostly they brought us food becuae the crap the tender served was horrible.

Posablly seeing about starting up a navy molders museum?

I know they dismissed our rate back in 1997. I would hope there are enough of us left to possably  get together and see about creating a museum somewhere  here in the states to preserve our long history and heritage that we all have shared as Molders. Any of you out there please give me a response if you read this Discussion.                                      Thanks.
