gold has marks and chevrons
I personally think the gold on a first class uniform just says that you never had good liberty or got caught too afraid to just say wtf and jump in proud of my 5 "RED CEVRONS AND MY RED FIRST CLASS CROW"

I also took the E-7 (HMC) exam as well and passed, but as a Reserve Hospital Corpsman the billets weren't there...can't cry over being passed over for Chief...I had a great time...I wouldn't do anything differently...my experiences were priceless!
Boy can I relate to that!
But I served in an E-7 Billet as Master at arms and had my own Stateroom on the USS Anchorage as a First Class one West Pac when the Chief Master At Arms retired. So even If I retired as a E-6 and still had a Great time in the Service anyway.
Crap..................Geeee It happens!
I know Gery I took the E-7 test 7 times in my Career I always got pass but not advanced due to the MM rate was closing up. but Life went on,
Served twice and both times a Seabee. 1971 - 1975 as a CM, the 1981 - 1997 and retired as a UT1. Took the Chiefs exam several times and pass every time but when they only make 4 or 5 a year that makes it all the tougher

HM1 Oropeza (NEC8404) here although I didn't have gold chevrons I was still a 4.0 sailor in camouflage uniform mostly....
I am glad to here that you made it back, I hope the Electrocution did not damage you to much I just got done studying Electrical Safety on my OSHA 30hr. General Industry Course. I took the E-7 test I passed but was not advance, I kept missing going to the Board by fractions of a point. I left the Navy 1989.
I made ET1 while going to ETB school at T.I. From there I got sent to the USS James E. Kyes (DD-787) where I went on 3 Westpac cruises to the Gulf of Tonkin.
On my last cruise, I took the Chiefs test and passed it but never got to put on the uniform because I was nearly electrocuted from a bad cable on a radar and my career was ended after two seizures at sea.
Just got back from a free veterans day meal and had great conversation with another Navy man about our visits to Hong Kong. Those were the good ol days.
Howdy to all my brother/sister PO1's.... hope all enjoyed all the free food on Veterans Day. Still more free food to come this Monday.
