  • After Navy worked a few jobs, but put my Navy training as corpsman to work and went into Firefighting/emt .Put in 25 years loved every bit of it.Best thing i ever did was jion the Navy and be come a corpsman
  • It sounds to me like Bill Cosby picked his service and rate the same way I pick my football teams. The first thing I do is look at the uniforms. If they're OK, I watch to see how fluid & graceful the quarterback is when going back for a forward pass. Then I look at the coach, and if I like his looks, that's my Team-Of-The-Day! The exceptions are Oregon & Oregon State who get their many experimental uniforms donated to them by the design department at Portland-based Nike and often look like roller-derby teams.
  • You're in Roanoke? I'm from Alexandria.
  • Hello Everyone,

I recently found this site when I was looking for people I knew in the Navy. I went basic in Orlando in 1976, to Corps school in Sandiego in 1977, FMS Camp Pendelton 1978 and 8506 Adv Med Tech in 1979. It was good to see that you are trying to stay connected. Hoping to share that experience as well.

  • @ Jim, yes Bill Cosby was a Pharmacist's Mate. In an interview one time he said he picked the Navy because they bad the best uniforms and the Hospital Corps because they had the best looking rating badge
  • How many know that amongst the Corpsman alumni are people like Dr. William(Bill) Cosby?

Fleet Marine Force Service medal/ribbon

The Navy has yet to recognize the FMF service of thousands of Grunt Docs who have served side by side with the Marines for generations. In 1984 then Navy Secretary Lehman came out with an FMF ribbon but only for FMF service after 1984.The Navy should either recognize all of us Grunt Docs or none at all; choosing only those whose FMF service was post 1984 is a slap in the face to PRE-1984 FMF Hospital Corpsmen.FMF Ribbon service post 1984.gif
