The third USN ship to bear the name, Yosemite was laid down on 19 January 1942 by the Tampa Shipbuilding Company at Tampa, Florida; launched on 16 May 1943 and commissioned on 25 March 1944, Capt. George C. Towner in command.

  • I came onboard the YOYO in March 1953 and tramsfered off in November 1959. I was in the 2nd division. Retired out of the Navy in 1975 as a BMC. Now live in Guam. jimrose@guam.net

  • David, do you remember when the DD's that was off our bow in port fired a war short mark 32 torpedo accross the parking lot. That was a bad day for someone. Cheers.

    I was aboard from 1973-1975. I was in the torpedo shop.

  • I served on th USS yosemite from fall of 89' to spring of 92' . I was a Dental Technician. I went on the 89' Med Cruise, and the Gulf Tour.
