  • Seeing that Sasebo has been added I visited Sasebo and Yoko in 1968 while onboard the USS Cabildo (LSD 16) and Sasebo once again in 1987 while aboard the USS Ranger (CV 61). A previous comment gives the commands and years in Yoko.

  • I was in MIDWAY from Dec '78 to Dec '80 as MPA.  Greatest bunch of snipes I ever met.  We were not home in Yokosuka all that much.

  • First visit to Yokosuka was in 1958 as an RM2 with ComLanShipRon 7 embarked in the USS Wexford County (LST-1168).  Quite an experience for a young sailor.  Each time I returned until my last visit on the USS Razorback (SS394) in 1967, you could see how Japan was changing.  Used to go to a hotel in Oppama to stay overnight, go to the Geisha shows and meet people.  What an experience.

  • Stationed NavComFac Yokosuka 1952-1954
    Great duty and great liberty

  • Westpac on the USS Hornet CVS 12, 66-70. Yokosuka was some mighty fine liberty but don`t forget Sasebo.
