  • I was assigned to Ramsey precom out of bootcamp in Sept '66. Crew went aboard in '67 while in the shipyard at Bremerton WA and put in commission on 6/3/67. I stayed aboard her until separation in '70. Made Wespacs 1 & 2 as a BT. Separated as BT2. We are having a reunion in Branson, MO June 2-4, 2017 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her commissioning and all shipmates that served aboard her are invited. An event will be posted here soon with all the details.

  • TM3 Elvin Smith has located BM3 Bill Ramsey in Oregon and works for UPRR. Also found SH3 Richard Salyers who is a truck driver in Illinois. I live in Arizona.  ALL 3 of us did Rimpac 87 with Joseph Lee.

  • Was TAD aboard Ramsey for 5 months in 80.  Volunteered to take her through  a nuke weapons inspection prior to a deployment. Once we passed the inspection was sent packing back to the England (CG-22).

  • Hey guys. I was a Torpedomans Mate on Ramsey from 84-until decomm in 88. I was lucky enough to be on her last WestPac which turned out to be a RimPac, in 87.
I live in Philly now, so if you are an old shipmate drop me a note.
  • When I was on the Ramsey in 1978 it was a FFG-2 Brooke Class Frigate. I was a HT2. Had a lot of good guys working for me. Sure would like to hear from them, such as HT3 Bussa, HT3 King.We had a couple of good fights at the club on 32ND St and also at the Westerner in Nasty City.
  • Ramsey earned five battle stars for Vietnam service. She operated in the Pacific for her entire career, except for brief excursions into the Indian and Arctic oceans. Her home port was Naval Station San Diego.
