  • I was onboard fron 1976-1979. I spent time in V-2 Division Arresting Gear, and as a ships Investigater.
    I am looking for a V-2 Division Maintance Officer that served on any ship back arround 1972 that remembers that we used asbestos cloth in pouring sockets.   • I was onboard in OC Division, Operations Department from Nov 1971 to March 1975. Westpac 72-73, drydock Portsmouth 73-74, Med cruise 74
  • She was my first tour, although I wasn't stationed there long. Not fun being in the Boatswain dept with no assigned rate at the time. Left her to go to Signalman A school and never looked back.
  • I was on the America from 1984-1986. Made two deployments on this great ship. I was assigned to the AIMD onboard.
  • I was on the America in the late part of 93 to july 94.
  • I was onboard during 81-83 attached to VA-46. Participated in Norhtern Wedding, and Caribbean work-ups leading to Med/Suez/I.O. cruise. Had a great time, made a lot of friends.

Collision at sea

I was with a squadron (RVAH3) on a ten day carrier qual sometime around 70-72 out of Norfolk. Anyway we had a collision with a foreign vessel and I believe it was on the port side but I am not sure. I recall hearing that the fuel lines had been cleared and vented before impact and that it was our fault for not yielding the right of way. We knew the hit was unavoidable about twenty minutes prior. Anyway, the damage wasn't too extensive and was above the water line. Does anyone happen to remember…
