I am sure Navy Veteran's originally from Pennsylvania are now living throughout the USA. Pennsylvania would be their home of record at time of entry into the US Navy.

  • I don't think anyone minds you guys reminiscing here. Like I said I'm originally from R.I. so I would like to know about the places that used to be here.
  • Anyone here from West Chester or Chester County?
  • Carlson Olds, AC Motors was accross the street. They were a Chrysler Plymouth dealer. I workked there too. We thought the AC stood for Alcohol and Cigars cause the salesman were always drinkin and smoking big cigars when they sold one of those big New Yorkers

    Thanks for the feedback
  • You know, eventually we're gonna get slagged for having all these non-navy comments here...we ought to go offline for reminiscing. Was the name of the olds dealer, Ratner? AND...

Your book is damn funny, OMG, between reading it with a stupid smile and laughing out-loud it is hilarious. The 'phantom shitter' ... everyone ship must have had one! I forgot so many things that all came rolling back, the practical jokes underway, the captain as accomplice, the wickedly funny impersonations!! And I'm only up to 1980!! How can you possibly remember all of that? I am dying. The 'skate rate'. I'm probably going to have to finish reading it this evening before I sleep tonite, it is definitely a page turner !!
  • We used to have family reunions there at Crabapple. I worked in high school at a car dealer called Carlson Oldsmobile on RT 30. For a while before that I had a part time job as a stock boy at a woman's clothing store in Irwin called Bronx. I remember buying my clothes from these two old guys named Saul and Al at a store on Main St. called Bergads. I know all those stores are different now but it really surprised me that Isaly's closed.
  • of course i remember blue dale pool.and ligioner beach too..and the maple drive in theater. i use to bowl at norwin lanes our school had a bowling club that met there...its closed now. blue dale pool has been filled in...maple drive in is closed as well...and norwin east is now the combined catholic school for st. agnes...ic and another school....do u remember crabapple park off clay pike near hermonie??
  • I know Markvue Manor. Do you remember a public swimming pool there called Blue Dell? I actually have that place in the next book. Thanks for getting Sweepers Sweepers. The guy in the first chapter, cousin Gary was from Hermanie, the Bowling Alley I talk about in the book was over the tracks by Nowin East up that hill on the right. It may have been called Norwin Lanes at the time.
  • where is Mark Acres? i grew up east of the high school off rt. 30 in a place called markvue manor. it was not far from spitz's the auto wrecking yard (thats still there). btw - i ordered your book can't wait to read it. my son is in nrotc at CMU, i'll try to get him to read it as well.
  • I left in 72: Lived in Mark Acres. I still have a lot of relatives back there. My next book is set in that area. In fact It will be titled Brush Creek.

Guantanamo Bay

Yes, I am a Pennsylvania vet.  I probably haven't got as involved as I should.  I would love to be in contact with guys who I served with, especially in Guantanamo Bay 1960-62.  However, I had a lot of friends in Norfolk at NAS in 1958-60. It would be great if we could all hook up with our buddies from times in the past.  If any of you folks were in Guantanamo Bay please join our Association at www.gitmobay.org.  Have a great year.
