While a member of the Staff, CRUDESFLOT 4,I was the Retrieval Techniques Officer of the Project Mercury Recovery Force and worked with the Project Mercury Astronauts from the HAM Flight thru John Glenn's Flight. In 1962 was detached and sent Commission USS Hoel DDg-13 as the prospective X.O. We commissioned her on 14June 1962 in Boston NSY and sailed to our homeport in San Diego, CA shortly thereafter. After 13 months, was selected to head up NAPS, Bainbridge ,MD.
