Anyone have memories of being a filed medic or hopital corpsman USn on the MarineCorps Air to Ground Combat Training Center at Twentynine Palms Califiornia? Hi Richard! I too was on the USS San Bernardino (LST 1189) in 1978 when I was in the Reserves but went back Active duty in 1978 until I retired in 1998
I Joined the Navy 1950 at Inglewood Calif.where i was raised, went thru boot at NTC San Diego, shipped to Japan 2 years in Tokyo at ComNavFe then Yokosuka a year and a half at NavComFac. Then short bit of sea duty on the TAP111 General A.E. Anderson. I reside in Cypress California
I lived in Manhattan Beach and joined the USNR in 64 while attending Aviation HS. Did boot between Jr. and Senior year and two weeks at Christmas of my senior year on USS Brinkley Bass (DD887). Off to Great Lakes for OM "A" school ten day s after graduation form HS. The to USS Markab AR23 in Oakland. Off to WestPac then when we returned signed on as Regual Navy. Then off to perisocpe school and then Scotland to USS Simon Lake (AS33). From there to USS Puget Sound in New Port RI. From there to Subase Pearl, then to San Diego to USS Dixon, USS Samual Gompers. Transfer to USS AJax for a year Westpac, then back to Subase Pearl. From Pearl to Long Beach and USS Prairie. Retired from Prairie in 85 as OM1 (SW).
I'm from Santa Clara, CA and enlisted in June, 1968. I was sent to RTC San Diego, CA. After graduating I was sent to Viet Nam to get on-board the USS Kemper County (LST 854). In Jun. of 1969 I was transferred to USS Monticello (LSD 35) after the Kemper County was Decommissioned. I transferred from a deck hand to become a quartermaster. I was transferred to the USS San Bernardino (LST 1189) and I became a QM3 on 14 Nov. 1970. I left the service April 4, 1972 and returned home to Santa Clara. I had a great time in the Navy.
I was born in San Gabriel, raised in West Covina and enlisted in the Navy in July 1969. I spent over 26 years on active duty retiring as a LCDR (LDO) in 1995. My duty stations included: RTC (Boot Camp) San Diego, CA; USS KAWISHIWI (AO 146); Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 4; RTC/NTC (Staff) San Diego, CA; Air-Antisubmarine Squadron 33; USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CV 67); Operational Test and Evaluation Force, Nofolk, VA; Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, WA; USS NIMITZ (CVN 68); Trident Training Facility, Bangor, WA; and Personnel Support Activity Detachment, Whidbey Island, WA. I have very fond memories of my Navy career and am very grateful for having the privilege of serving.

Briefly,, I was born in Vallejo, CA on May 19, 1947.
I joined the "Canoe Club" in May 1964 (went on active duty October 1964).
I volunteered for "Victor Charlie Land" and spent 18-months their (as a BMSN,
Danang & Chu Lai, FEB1966 to OCT1967).
I became a YN in the fall of 1969 (when YN A-School was in San Diego).
I retired (22-years) the medical way in December 1986 (I am a service-
connected Disabled American veteran who belongs to the VA's medical
system).
I will close by saying "that if you didn't know it, by you giving Lady America
(Statue Of Liberty) part of your life, you are know one of her son's/daughters"
