Born in LA, lived in Coronado, San Diego, and Pleasanton CA. I was a Navy Brat. Enlisted in 1968 and had my physical and swearing in at the LA induction processing center. Discharged in 1972. After boot camp and hospital corps school I did a stint at NTC San Diego working on the base dispensaries for sick calls, the base hospital wards, and health records department.
Got orders to the PI and flew out of San Diego to San Francisco. And then followed by a nice little bus ride to Travis Air Force Base where I waited in a filled terminal with a mass of military, civilian workers, and dependents. All waiting for flights overseas. I was there for 11 hours before I caught a Boeing 707 Braniff International Airlines flight out of Travis around 2300 hrs. I had a window seat and watched the city lights go by below us. Then as we left the coast it became a black void, and thus started my long flight across the Pacific Ocean. And good bye to California for a while.
Love the CA Veteran. Currently serving as Chair for the LA County Veterans Advisory Commission...serving and preparing for veterans returning to the community. We are part of 23.5 million Veterans who live in the U.S. CA has more Vets than any other State, and LA County has more Vets than any other County. Looking forward to being a part of this group and hearing what all of you are doing in your community.
Me, I'm a Mom of 2 in college, but not an empty-nester...not really. When the kids were small they brought home a dog or two and Alice the cat. Kids are gone, animals are not. (heavy sigh) Currently work in nonprofit public affairs while volunteering in many Vet programs/projects.
I tried to live in North Edwards a couple years back. I made it for 7 months and sold my house short to get back to Tehachapi. Other than having easy access to ride our go-carts, it was a big mistake.
