  • I don't know Bill, when I was there with VP 26 in 1982 we lived in a regular barracks. The downtown area was nice though. I found some pictures of the base on Google Earth.
  • This is my first post on the site. I was initially going to make it on the RTC Orlando page, but when I started at the Command page I saw Keflavik and I just had to comment.
I had just left VAL4 in Vietnam and had gotten some good duty with VP8. I was an Ordnanceman and life was good for a change. We slept in these steel quonset huts with nothing but lava rock all around. It was hard to get a good night's sleep because of all the rock raining down at all hours. Are those buildings still there? All of this occurred about January of 1973. I also remember downtown as being rather nice, I believe. Time does dull the senses though. I hope all is well with everyone.
  • I was a Radioman at NAVCOMSTA KEF 1966 - 1967. Cold, windy and smelly, we used to turn out in summer just to watch the reaction of the new guys when they first landed and got a whiff of Kef air. In the winter we could open our parkas and let the wind skate us across the frozen runways (Not during flight ops of course). Cold war days of Polaris alarms and Russian Bear overflights. Kef was an interesting duty station and the winter sky was breathtaking. Made some good friends there.
  • I was part of the NSGA 80-81. Have many great memories from there. One of the not so great - the fish factory outside the gates lol. Although, the fish was great!
  • I was there during the northen wedding, floating on the FID we had some mighty strong storms very interesting deployment. I believe that was arround 1977.
  • Those Northern Lights were something! I was shot here in 1979 by a squad of 4 or less attacking from a sub about 100yds from NSGA. Those of you who were there would know what have happened if the word got out. So the records were classified and kept on site. Navy says "No Records." So Just my heart and a bit of blood remains at Kef. I hear they turned NAS into a Student housing area.... Still would like to go back and feel my bones during a 55degree summer heatwave:)1978-1979 That wind was something else too!
  • Anyone remember the Reagan Summit
