  • Got me a wife on that ship. Met the ship in Boston in March 1982, left end of September 1984 as they were heading to IO for 6 months, Bubye, now! LOL

After 3 mo fire watch and 3 mo on mess decks, spent my time in the A/C of the DP :-)

  • My dad was on this ship WWII. In 1989 while I was in Rota Spain I wrote the ship requesting a Command Ball Cap & sent it too my dad which he treasured till day he died still have that cap.
  • onboard from '80 to '83 in both the shipfitter shop and carpenter shop. it was a fun time, Boston was a blast. Left just after gitmo. now stuck behind a desk drawing plans for rock crushers.

  • Was aboard Vulcan from Sep 1962 till Sep 1964. Got there just in time for
the Cuban missile crisis. Was assigned to R3 Div and made IC3 while aboard. Worked in the gyro repair shop on the 01 level just aft of the wardroom. The shop opened into the amidship passageway. Was in charge of the meter repair shop, a small compartment on the port side of that passageway. Went to the decommissioning ceremony and first
renuion in 1991 held at Virgina Beach. Also visited Vulcan for a tour
    at that time.
  • I was onboard Vulcan from 80-84. I was in pipe shop( remember Odell?)
then i went to 4955 school and went to the weld shop. Hey Lajoie! I am still welding today running my own maintenance shop in a plant that makes ice& water sheild. I still use alot of what I learned on that ship and will continue to for years to come.
  • I was on the Vulcan from 80 - 82 I came aboard when the ship came in from the Med Cruise, I worked in deck division until I started working as a StoreKeeper I transferred off Just after the ship finished going through the yards in Boston.
  • I was on Vulcan from "1979"- "1983'.Was in R-1 Div. Worked in Shipfitter shop 11-A, also did some time in sheetmetal shop and pipe shop.Great memories that will never be forgotten, especially that year we spent in Boston.Hung out with Frog and the Wapaho Boys.
  • yeah we had a snowball fight back on the fantail and was bombing people from the boat deck with snowballs , Me and a couple buddies had bought some tax free booze over sea and I had got champagne and we were luck enough to catch one of the last cabs running and had them take us to the Virginia Hilton and ended up snowed in for 4 days , Virginia shuts down when they get an inceh of show let alone a blizzard , we didn't have the money to stay all those days so they put us up for free !! If I hadn't of been on crutches from getting hurt in the storm it would have been even better !! As it was they went ahead and held the Petty Officer 3 & 2 tests while we were stranded and I neber did get another chance fro promotion because my term was up and I wasn't going to re-up for another 10 bucks a week lol !!
