The USS Fulton (AS-11) was launched 27 December 1940 by Mare Island Navy Yard; sponsored by Mrs. A. T. Sutcliffe, great-granddaughter of Robert Fulton; and commissioned 12 September 1941, Commander A. D. Douglas in command.

  • I reported aboard in 1972 in La Maddalena Italy. Started out in 1st Div deck force, and in 1973 went to the signal bridge as an SM striker..I was transferred from the ship while she was in NORVA in 1977 as an SM-2....I can still close my eyes and walk all over the old girl in my mind...Who would ever think ya could miss a hunk of metal...

  • I served in Repair shops Pipe, Sheet Metal, & Admin,  the transferred to R-Division. Then my last year on board worked as Command DAPA. Went through a lot aboard FULTON.  

  • came aboard july 1974...left the us intrepid may of that year then tty repair school norva....left dec 75...rm1......last ship...before the intrepid uss severn ao-61 new port ri....before the oiler uss atka icebreaker.......between nas cubi point pi and navradsta cape cod ma....after the fulton navsubase groton......

  • 81A, Foundry from 87-91, absolutely loved this ship.

  • I was attached in 1990 -1991 just before they were decommissioned attach to the Optical Shop 35A transferred to sub base  New London. 

  • I was assigned to the wood shop and sail locker from 1977-1979

  • Worked in R-2 rewind shop as EM3 and EM2; and after becoming EM1 ran the Sound Analysis Shop until leaving for Great Lakes Instructor school.
  • Came aboard in Sept 1971 and served there for 5 years. Reenlisted while on board. Made the 5.5 moth trip to La Maddelena, Italy when we opened the base there.
  • I was on the Fulton from early 1985 until Oct. 1986. Did one cruise to Roosavelt Rhodes Peurto Rico to work on a sub that was down.My rate was MR2 I was in the machine shop.  

  • Was stationed on the USS Fulton between 1989-till decommissioned.
