  • I was a rescue swimmer with the H-3s at OMD from 1985 to 1987. That was my first flying billet after graduating from SAR school.
  • Was at Oceana from 1962-1966 and was with VA-42. Any of y'all go back that far?
  • Kevin,

I remember Blevins and Dye and I'm sure the rest of them would be one of those folks I'd stare at in a crowd and wonder where the heck I knew them from. I was - still am a pretty personable guy and took the time to yak with anyone that had the time so I met a lot of people, just the names escape me. I definitely remember your name though.
  • Yeah, John, some of those names ring a bell or two. MCPO Meek, MCPO Shepard, CPO Weeks, and I think I remember Jordan, Huls, and Moran. Now to exercise the ol' noggin......some of the guys I worked with were AT3 Doug Adams, AQ3 Mike Blevins, AQ2 Mike Dye, AQ2 Ralph Kalar, AQ1 Ron Shearer, AQC Roger Slonaker, AT or AQ1 Nobblitt, AQ2 O'Conner, AQ2 Jack Crites, AQ2 Mehan, and that's about all I can remember rite now!
  • I maintained the 51 cards on the test benches, support equipment, and various other items that had Maintenance Requirements Cards. Do you remember LCDR Fletcher, Master Chiefs Meek and Shepard, Senior Chief Pratt etc?

AZs that I worked with: Ken Uber, Kath Hite, Rick Dunnegan, Rob Wix, Phil Sorrentino, Dean Mahhaffey, John Hougom, Mike Weldon, Jimmy Dean Clark, Mike Jordan, Tim Huls, Alan White,

Others whose first names and rates escape me: Petty Officers First Class Moran and Kelley, CPO Weeks.

Can't believe I remember all those names after all these years! THought I throw a few out there and see if you remembered any of them as well.
  • John, Anthony, ya'll seem familiar to me as well! 'Course my memory ain't so good as it use ta be, thanks to all the brain cells I killed with all the good beer and whiskey I consumed in the Navy!! Let's see now...while I was in 64D I was day shift supervisor, nite shift super., production control PO, QA CDI, tool control PO, Pubs PO, Hydraulic contam control PO, ESD control PO, training PO, laser safety PO, and I believe I was departmental duty supervisor for duty section.....I don't remember, maybe 6! Whew! They had me coming and going!
  • I also came to Oceana straight from Millington in Sep 1980. But before I could even finish my training at VF-171, I was assigned to VA-176 and immediately deployed to the Indian Ocean in Nov 1980 on the USS Independence. We were on station when the hostages were released in Iran. Back at Oceana I was TAD to AIMD work center 610 (Com/Nav). I later transferred to shore duty (just before my squadron deployed to Grenada) at Oceana/AIMD in work center 640 (ECM), until I was discharged on July 9, 1985. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Va.Beach, and hope to bring my son back for the 2009 airshow. I remember a few names... Ken Colvin is familiar, and Brenda Balducci too. We were so young then...
  • Hello all, I was at AIMD from 87 to 90. Met lots of wonderful people. Wondering where they all are now. Ken, I think I might know you. I worked in Production Control. By April of 1988 I would have been AZAN Bonaccorso. I put on 3rd class on that particular exam cycle and would have been frocked in June.
  • I first came to Oceana, 1 Jan 1982 after completing Avionics "A" school and AFTA at NATTC Millington, TN. I then spent a number of months in school learning the A-6E FLIR system before being assigned to VA-85. When I wasn't deployed at sea with the squadron, I worked TAD at AIMD work center 64D (FLIR shop). When I rotated to shore duty, guess what.....I stayed at AIMD w/c 64D! Didn't have far to travel, needless to say! Re-uped while there, July 1986, for 2 more years, then got out early (for the convenience of the Guvmint, shure as heck wasn't fer MY convenience!) 18 Apr, 1988. Sure do miss it....
