Naval Air Station, Point Mugu, Ca. Alongside Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County, the Point Mugu Naval Air Station is home to the Pt. Mugu Missile Park. A wide variety of the missiles and airplanes that have been tested at Point Mugu since WW2.

  • Hey all, my first duty station was PMTC Point Mugu from June 85 to March 89. I was attached to OMA flight line over by hanger 553 and 359. The OMA officer was LT Burt Hall at the time, also remember AD1 Delaney, AD1 Cruz, AD1 Wolf, AD1 Sharp, and AE1 Rice. they were all supervisors we had on the line division, I guess we burned them out real quick back then. Ohhhhh the stories I could tell you about the line division at that place. But retired now and livin the dream in upstate New York.

  • I joined the Navy in 1950, I signed up for aviation duty and after boot camp was sent to VP-45, a seaplane squadron of PBM Mariners Norfolk,VA. In 1951 we re-opened the Coco Solo Naval Station, Panama Canal Zone. After the usual mess cooking and compartment cleaning I was assigned to the beach crew. Good duty but the more I saw those huge aircraft calling my name the more I wanted to be an air crewman.I became the 2nd ordnanceman on crew 2 until leaving active duty May,1954. I joined the Naval Air Reserve, NY, December 7,1957.Changed my rate to aviation mech, passed the test, climbed the ladder to 1st class.I had a wonderfull job with Grumman Aircraft at Bethpage, raised a family and kept my feet in with Weekend Warriors flying in P2V'2 until Grumman offered a promotion to work at the new aerospace facility in Houston,TX on the moon lander and made CPO with a small naval training center for weekenders. Made CPO. After Armstrong came home I was sent to Point Mugu and worked in Grumman's personnel office. Reserve squadron HAL-5 came on board and I worked in Maintenance Control, made SCPO and later MCPO where I was requested to be

    HAL-5's Command Master Chief in May 1982 till I retired August 1988.What a wonderful double career that came together at Pt.Mugu

  • Assigned to VA-305 from 1972-76 in the IWT shop. Enjoyed my time there and made some great friends.

  • Luis, I was at Mugu just prior to retiring in 1986.  Went home and went into law enforcement.  I live in Eastern Washington, Just north of Spokane.  Where abouts in Washington do you live?

  • Hello, I was assigned to NMC, Point Mugu in January of 1971. Served four years, initially at the OMA level working in the line launching F4s and other aircraft. I asked to be transferred to AIMD Power Plants Division, and spent the rest of my four year enlistment there. I was trained on all the engines the navy used, tear down and rebuilt all of the aircraft engines the navy flew, it was the coolest job ever. After my enlistment was up, I was offered a Civil Service job, working at the S-2 shop and went on to work for the navy a total of 34 years. I saw a number of re-incarnations of the Air Station's name. I went back to P/P after three years with the "Stoofs" and went to QA after working at the Test Cell for a couple of years. I worked in Q/A at P/P and eventually became the Station AVGFE until my retirement from CSRS. At that point in time, the military cutbacks called for dis-establishment of AIMD as it was known, and many of the vets who had worked there after their service ended up retiring too.....Great memories and great time working there. Happily retired now and living in Washington state!!!!

  • I was at Pt Mugu from 1977 to 1980 assigned to the wheel and tire shop and then the AIMD hydraulic shop. Lived in base housing off Sparrow Drive. Our son was born in Oxnard and we had many goods times while stationed there. We still go camping out at the beach once in while. Last time we where there I noticed that the tire shop was being torn down, probaly from all the Haz-mat.
  • A friend was at Point Mugu with VXE-6 that took part in "Summer Support" for "Deep Freeze" he was DP2 in 1990-1991 timeframe
