I agree Thomas, in a twist of fate I got and lost my job in Nevada. So here I am back in western Mass with my family. According to Jim DeCota the heavy cruiser USS Salem is supposed to move from Quincy to Boston. I am looking to do some volunteer work on her, museum, tours etc. I am being given the proverbial second bite at the apple.According to Jim the USS Slater is in drydock and due to get out soon. He mentioned one or two other ships, besides the Slater. Where they are going to be at you will have to ask Jim. Jim would also know if they are seeking volunteers for these ships.
FINISHED IN 1960. TALK ABOUT BELIEVING WHERE TIME WENT.:)
LOOKING BACK AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME THROUGH LIFE, I WOULD DO IT AGAIN.
Can't believe it's been that long ago !
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE FROM COMPANY 142 IN 1950 ON THIS WEB SITE?
SPENDING HOLIDAY WEEKEND IN SD, DAUGHTER HAS BOAT IN MISSION BAY MARINA. WILL DRIVE THRU WHAT IS LEFT OF THE OLD NTC AND BRING BACK SOME MEMORIES OF YEARS PAST.THE RECRUIT STILL STANDS AS I NOTICED IT AS WE DROVE BY. MAN O MAN HAS TIME GONE BY!
Thanks Jim. I don't know if it was brains or stupidity or just a nagging wife, :) I did enjoy my career overall and have lots of fond memories. Thanks for your service!
Michael I followed in the Fall of 72 with MMC Dale Scott as our CC for Co. 941. I'll never forget that man! You learn to respect a Chief Machinist Mate real fast! Now-a-days I head the words of a 92 year old MMCS (or is tha MMSC) who did 40 years in!
I wish I had more brains back then and had made a career of it as you did! BZ to you for making CMC.
I was there from April 1972 to June 1972. Don't remember which company but we started with a BMC and ended with a SM1. I was the RCPO1 and got a kick out of having to do 100 jumping jacks without stopping on the night before graduation.
Thanks cheif.
Hoping all hands aboard have a wonderful. Easter
