  • Stationed 9-1960 to 9-1963; RM2 when I left. Ah yes. The snow. When the runways were cleared of snow, the snow plows would come to the parking lot in front of the WAVEs barracks. Sometime we had to get up at 1 or 2 am to move our cars. Had a nasty VW bug which may or may not start in a timely manner, the sight of a huge snow plow quickly approaching...Well the communications center was located in the air traffic control building. (Later moved to the COMFAIRWING hangar. VPs there were 10, 11, 21, 23, & 26. Flew in a P2V Neptune (VP26) to Norfolk to see my brother stationed on the Lexington. Interesting flight. Guys kept plying me with liquids while on the flight. I knew what they were up to. Did you know that the F4 Phantom jet flew it's first flights out of NAS Brunswick? Think it was X4. Would roar down the runway and then fly straight up. I think it was to determine how well it flew in the cold weather. I was a ground to air CW operator (Among many other things). Anyhow I found out that the flight radio guys knew when I'd be on duty. My sending hand. When they knew I was there they sent all their messages to me. Later was a watch supervisor, cryptographer. Loved it at NHZ...CW call letters. Was there during the Cuban Missile Crisis and when the USS Thresher went down. Made RM2 in late 1962. Then accepted orders to Naval Communication Station in SFRAN (Stockton CA location.) I would really love to hear from shipmates from that era.

  • Nas Brunswick fuel farm 1964.
  • was stationed with VP-11 89-92, had a great time. I loved Maine.

  • I live @12 miles from Base I put my Anchors on here with the Sea-Bees

  • This was my last duty station. I had just left VAL4 in Vietnam and got lucky enough to be assigned to VP8. I was there, except for Bermuda, from 4/72 to 6/73. To me, this was a wonderful base. I believe there was a McDonald's outside the main gate. I'm embarrassed to tell this, but I ate two Big Macs and a coffee shake every day for I don't know how long. There was also a Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips I liked also. Honestly though, I would have loved that place even without the food. As others have commented, I sure hated knowing Brunswick closed down. The closing of Orlando hurt too. You guys take care and I hope you have a great 2012...I believe we could all use it.

  • I was stationed at the Comm Center as Ground Maintance. made SM1 while there. The only shore duty in 14 years. I loved it there. Too bad its closed now.
