  • I was stationed at Commander, Patrol Wing Five (CPW-5), Air Intelligence Office (AIO), Special Intelligence Communications Center (SPINTCOMM) from 11/1975 to 11/1977. I love the snow from Thanksgiving to May and whenever there was a warm day (40 degrees above zero), people would get into their T-shirts and shorts and go to the car wash to wash the salt off their vehicles. I had a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 there with a 351W engine with a 650 CFM Holley Four-Barrel carburetor that would scream every time it got close to a gas station!
  • I was greatly saddened to see VP-44 be dis-established back in the early 90's. The closing of the base being closed really breaks my heart. It's like hearing that your home is being torn down. A very dark day for those of us who served there.
  • I thought it was the best base I was at.Maine is a great place !
  • NAS was a great duty station, sad to see them closing this base down in a short spell. This was the end of the road for me, I was attached to base supply from 1998 - 2001 and retired out of NAS.
  • I was actually with VP 26 but when we were in port I worked in the Galley and BEQ.
