  • If only we knew then what we know now....there goes that hind-sight thing again

  • During my brief stint in the Seabees reserves,we flew to Roosevelt Roads (hope I spelled that right) in San Juan,Puerta Rico for two weeks "TRAINING" and after working 12-14 hours a day, plus a 6 hour barracks watch,I was ready to re-think my priorities, lost ten pounds, and finally was able to drag my behind back home, and hang it all up!!

  • Please don't get me wrong. Loved the Seabees, they secured the beaches for us and helped us out lots. Just an unfortunate move by the D9 Cat operator!
AMPHIBS! We had the seaside ships, us; the taxis to shore, the poor marines we dumped in the surf, and the Seabees who received us.
(Of course Seabees also built runways, buildings, etc, but I was Amphib and ony with Beachmasters and Seabees on the beach)
  • Any of you ever here of Chief Johnson. He pushed me though boot in Aug.74

  • Doug, after I left the fleet Navy,I had a friend to coax me into going into the SEABEES,as a reservist for a year, and I did,and saw a totally different side of the Navy.First thing they did was to make a BUILDER out of me,which was carpenter work> hammering nails, building picnic tables for boy scout camps, which I really enjoyed doing. But I think the FIGHTING SEABEES can drink beer right alongside the fleet Navy as well

  • Just noticed you were on the Pt D. I was TAD on her 3/72 to 11/72 (?) with ACU-1 (LCM-8)
Seabees ripped a gash in my hull pushing us off a beach with a big Cat front end loader in VN! You guys fixed us right up!
    Thanks!
  • Thanks Norm, I think I forgot how big RTC was.
I remember the change from SF & DC to HT- as a snipe had lots of HT friends, some liked the change, some didn't.
I also did boot through two companies, appendicitis about third week!
I was disaapointing to lose all the buddies from the first company, those first days are so stressfull, the buddies helped.
  • Doug that name does not ring a bell i pushed all my companies out of the 11th Batt. and one company (Hummer & Strumers believe the 36th Batt. I also was a first class SF but they changed us to HT while i was there put the DC rating together with us . I have only come across 1 guy i pushed through boot camp and i must have pushed over 500 recruits and i did 24yr's in the Navy where the hell are they
