  •  NTC  ORLANDO , I   BELIEVE  THE CLOSING  OF THIS  BASE  CONTRIBUTED  TO THE  ADMIRAL COMMITING SUICIDE.

  • Any of my old recruits or CC's. I started in RTC Orlando on March 1978. Iran the Holding Company , Clothing Issue and the Stencil room.  Then was then CC for the following companies:

         Company 243 - 09/16/1978 MMC Py & MM2 Buck

         Company 011 - 10/17/1978 MMC Py

         Company 052 - 01/02/1979 MMC Py

         Company 185 - 09/06/1979 MMC Py & BTC Salvador

         Company 004 - 10/02/1979 MMC Py & BT1 Crain

         Company 039 - 11/30/1979 MMC Py & ETC Ward

    On 02/30/1980 I was advanced to MMCS then became a Instructor at the Fireman Apprentice School. 

    Navy ships I sailed on were USS Intrepid CVS11, USS Mount McKinley  AGC7, USS Basilone DD824, USS Johnston DD821, USS Spiegel Grove LSD32 & USS Lexington CV16. 

    I was advanced to MMCM March 1983 Was the Command Master Chief for the Spiegel Grove then US Naval Ship Yard.  I retired on March 1985

  • @ Julie Allen - Thanks! I intended to do my four years and get out but I kept re-enlisting. I did get out for a while but came back home and enjoyed every minute of it! 

  • RTC Orlando Feb-April 1982 C091. Any shipmates out there?
  • May 1984-August 1984.  Best experience . 

  • Arrived RTC Orlando Nov 1969 from Naval Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Hosp. Assigned to Recruit Evaluation Unit.  Enjoyed working with recruits for a year, than transferred to Naval Hosp, Orlando.  Spent most of my off hours at the enlisted men's club at NTC and Daytona Beach.  Great duty, great place ,great memories, sad it is all gone!

     

    attended boot camp, NTC San Diego Aug-Oct 1968, sadly, it is gone too!

  • Served from Feb. 1969 to Dec. 1974 -  Nuke IC-1

    Original Co. 072/077 at RTC Orlando - 4 of us were sent to the new boot camp from the Los Angeles Induction Center.  Everyone else in my company was from Georgia and Louisiana.  Went on to NTC GLakes since there were no schools yet at Orlando.  Served aboard the USS Enterprise, plank owner of USS South Carolina.
