  • I was in Company 029 July 1975 - October 1975. We were one of very few male Companies that dinned with the females on the "OTHER" side of the galley. It was very crowded that training period. I got caught smoking on barracks watch by a Company Commander that had a night watch at the battalion office. He whispered to me after chewing me out, "shame on your a**" and nothing ever happened. I trained his company guide on bearer how to march and they flagged their first inspection.
  • I was in Company 3013 - WAVES. (Oct 1972 - Dec 1972) I will never forget getting off the bus in the early morning...lining up and having to turn over any "goodies" a person might have...candy, gum, etc. It was my intro to the Navy!
  • I think I was in Company 177 (August, 1971-November 1971). Boot camp was ten weeks. Hit on inspection? 16 count manual of arms in a wet sand pit until you dropped...then you would take your scrub brush and standard issue bottle of Wisk and scrub your clothes all night. I don't use Wisk to this day. On my way to Vietnam, I landed on the USS Enterprise in the middle of the South China Sea. Was on there for ten minutes and ran into a guy who was in the bunk next to me in boot camp. Small Navy.
  • I went to Orlando in March of 80. I actually thought Boot Camp was great! I had a lot of fun, met some wonderful people and still remember my Company Commanders to this day. I have nothing but fond memories of boot camp.
  • Arrived in February of 1979 and felt all alone. What a difference 8 weeks makes. Never would have guessed I would end up with 70 brothers when it was all done. Still remember looking forward to the smoking lamp to get lit. Training unit 072 was the BEST!!!!!
  • The only time I marched while in the Navy was during my 8 weeks at RTC Orlando. I remember marching to chow and doing "trick" moves, obliques, to the rear march, trying to out do the other companies marching to chow. And polishing the bronze threasholds with a toothbrush, waking up to the trash can being thrown down the centerboard of our compartment. Oh those were the days, and as I look back on them, those memories bring a smile to my face.
  • Arrived right after Christmas 1980 and started training January 1981. Spent next eight weeks learning to be a sailor. So many memories and it is heart breaking to know it's all gone now. Still remeber the first night in "RIF" and writing a postcard home. The thump of boondocker heels pounding the grinder on the way to chow on those "EARLY" Florida winter mornings. What ever happened to those green eggs? Went back later to NTC for Nuke school. Circus World controlled liberty and OBT! At least we have the memories!
  • Went thru basic from Nov 1980 to Jan 1981 CO 016. We red-lined every compartment inspection, sabataged by Company commander rivalries...LOL...Passed in Review and graduated with only a PE flag...those where the good ole days....I do have RTC Pics, the whole base is now gone!
  • Company 128 Jun-Aug 1973.
  • I found my Rudder from 1990! I'll post the pics later.
