  • I did my A-7 training at VA- 174 in 1971 before going to VA-82. I take a memory drive when I go through Jacksonville. Past the hangers,to the F-18 that once was done in VA-82 motif now in some other squadron. You can still see the old main gate entrance. At the time most of us could not wait to get out now we wish we could relive life at NAS Cecil .

  • Boot at Orlando then to NAS Cecilfield attached to VA-174 January 1973 to November 1975.

Started in the 1st Lt. Division where I painted the "Attack Country" on the runway side of the hangar. Then assigned to the Data Analysis Section then Maintenance Records, QA and the Pilot's Flight logs also did cover art for the CO, XO and Wing Admiral reports. Several TDYs to Yuma and other exotic locations.

  • Attached to VA-12 at Cecil from November 1982 to June 1986, started my career there and enjoyed every minute of it.

  • Anyone assigned to VA-87 from '66 to '68. I was ATR3 and worked with the nuclear loading of the A-7B corsairs. Was APN-153 Doppler Radar and ARC-51 UHF radio tech. Sure missed the days at Cecil Field. Jacksonville beach was freat in the summer. And the Disco's ---need I say more.

  • Went to San Diego boot camp September 1965. Then transferred to Monterey Cal for a brief stay waiting to attend electronics school at Millington, Tn. Arrived at Cecil Field in December 1966 and was assigned to VA-87(Sidewinders). Really enjoyed my time in the Navy there. Lots of good memories.

  • Merry Christmas to all you Navy Veteran's out there.

  •  Went to the Lakes in April 1964 and was assigned to Cecil Field out of Boot Camp. Arrived in July 1964 and assigned to Base Security until July 1966 when I was transferred to VA-36 (A4c) at Hanger 13.  Went to the Med with VA-36 aboard the USS America in 1967 and was discharged in 1968.  I stayed in Jacksonville and have spent 43 years with the Sheriff's Office. I have many fond memories of Cecil Field and the many friends I made there.  Several months ago I took my family to the Old Base and showed them where I worked and where the barracks used to be. It has changed so much and the Security Building and main gate are gone, only the broken down gate shack where I spent so much time my first two years was there. So sad.   I do have my old USNAS  Cecil Field Security Police Badge as one of my prized possessions.  Most likely the only one that exists.

  • i was stationed at cecil field from april 71 to january 75 with va-81 sunliners.made two med cruises on uss forrestal.i enjoyed my time at cecil, even my tad time at arresting gear with chief mogenburg, who was a great guy.

  • My wife and I travel to Jax occasionally.  We were married in Orange Park.  Each time, I try to make a visit to Cecil Field to reminisce.  I worked in the dispensary so was pleased that it is still there (or at least was last year).  I still have trouble remembering which route we corpsmen took to the runway when there was an emergency.  Guess one of these days that memory will come back.  Always enjoy going back and thinking about those good days.

  • I was squadron corpsman for VA-174 from 1971 (or thereabouts) to late 1972.  Worked in the dispensary with HMC Reese in Medical Records.

VS-31 NAS Cecil Fld.

Seems a lifetime ago. Barracks, chow hall, hangar on the flight line. Hotter than blue blazes in summer. Dropping torps south of Fort Jefferson, stopping at NAS Key West for fuel. Watching low level fuel light come on everytime pilot hit the brakes landing at Cecil. Blown tires, etc... I remember it all.
