USS Coral Sea (CV/CVB/CVA-43), a Midway-class aircraft carrier, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the Battle of the Coral Sea. She earned the affectionate nickname "Ageless Warrior" through her long career.

  • If you're ever down in Northern Nevada drop me a line on here.  We'll have to get together and tell each other lies about how great Navy life was.  Take care.  E-mail is thom.rigg@sbcglobal.net.

  • Idaho.  Lived in SoCal for 30 years, retired back home in southern Idaho.  Good to hear from you, my friend.

  • Wow!  Never expected a response from anybody.  Good to hear from you.  Talked to Tom Macinenny (really spelled bad) a few years ago in Reno and see Bill Kamps from time to time.  Currently in Carson City, NV.  Where are you?

  • Hey, Rigg!  I was with you on the Cora Sea.  I was a journalist at AFRTS during your stay, ran the TV station.  Good to see you're alive and kicking!  What a leader was Captain Ferris, huh?

  • You guys would seriously love SOLO VIETNAM, all about the WestPac cruise of 67-68  Features the crew and an A-4 Skyhawk pilot.  Several of the guys at the reuion loved it!   It just got another winning 5 star review. You can find the book here: SOLO VIETNAM on Amazon   I would be honored to have you all read it!

  • Served aboard from May of 1968 through May of 1971.  Was YN1 in Ship's Legal office.  Jim Ferris was Captain, then Wesley Macdonald and finally Sam Gorsline.  Captain Ferris passed away a few years back.

  • I just remembered the Capt's name when I was aboad the Coral Sea. It was Richard Dunlevy. One heck of a leader and person.

  • I was part of Ships Company from 12/80-4/82. I did one WESTPAC while working up in the Paraloft on the 02 level, right outside the Admirals Quarters. She was a great ole' gal and out of the 4 carriers I spent any time on, I consider the time I spent on her as the best. I can't remember the Captains name, but he was AWESOME!! He used to just pop in to the loft and just hang out & shoot the shit with us. A way cool guy.

  • Hello everyone!  Hoping to see you all at the USS Coral Sea reunion this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska!   See you with bells on!  USS Coral Sea Reunion Information

  • I was attached to VF-111 Sundowners on the 75 Westpack cruise and then  years later got orders to VA-55 also on board CV-43 for the 86 Med cruise.

Coral Sea

My tour of duty on the Coral Sea began in Nov. 1986 and ended in Nov.1988. I was originally assigned to the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department as the Leading Chief. I enjoyed the job, worked with some great Officers, Chiefs and Sailors. The boss was a Cdr Mason. Made Master Chief in May of 1989 and made the error of complaining to the XO, Capt Denny Mc Ginn about the HT's not fixing a leaking urinal drain. He asked me if I knew how to solve the problem. I said" XO, you only have to…

Looking for shipmates

Hi, I was abord Coral Sea from Feb. 1951 through Apr. 1954. I'm not sure of exact dates, I'm not sure of anything at my advanced age. I think I enjoyed my time aboard the Coral Maru. I made some great friends, most of whom were in the V3G (Av. gas gang) division. I've had the good fortune to remain in contact with a few of my shipmates but, would sure like to hear from any others.
