  • Boy, talk about a shock.  Arrived San Diego Recruit Training around 10:30 pm on July 12, 1965. After about 3 hours of sleep, started my 5 year stint in the U.S. Navy.  Company 327, with RM1 Greene. Still have some of my pics of boot camp, my copy of the Anchor, the little record inside it, picture of my company and many memories. Left Houston, Texas with a bunch of other guys from around the state. Left Hobby airport on Tree Top Airways.  That's what we called it, cause it flew so low.  Remember the guy that sat next to me on the plane.  His name was James Johnson and we hung together all through boot.  Lost track of him after that.

  • I HAVE NEVER FORGOT MY CO. BSMMC BRACKETT. HE WAS FUNNY AND WAS VERY MILITANT WHEN NEED TO BE. REMEMBER HIM "HAVING A BUTT," WHEN THE SMOKING LAMP WAS LIT, WITH THOSE OF US WHO FOOLISHLY SMOKED THEN. HE WOULD PUFF AWAY AND THEN "THE LAMPS OUT MEN LETS GET TO MAKING YOU SAILORS." COMPANY 040 1960

  • John, I am quite surprised that someone did not convince you to go to RM school!

  •  Randal E Waldon, I went in the same time you did.  Company 253 with CC and Seal BM1 Robinson, the "Barbarians".  Went to MS A-school at NTC San Diego till March 1985.  Stationed at NTTC/NSA Meridian, Miss. till November, 88.  Reservist in Knoxville till 1996.

  • Company Commander was ADR1 Schuller.  He made Chief while we were there.  Great CC and a reall great company over all.

  • Boot camp, Company 615 of 1962.  Returned to YN"B" School in fall of 1965.

  • Naval Training Center, 32nd Street, DATC when I was there, Molder "A" School, Sept, 1971, Feb. 11, 1972.  Foundry-Patternmaker school is all gone now.

  • Boot camp in Sept of 67 and back again in 68 for A school and 70 for B school. My first three months of marriage was spent out there, we lived about 2 blocks from the beach straight out the main gate. Love traveling around San Diego and met alot of nice people while there.

My name is Phil Mercuri. I was assigned to company 130 and was Squad Leader #4. Is there anyone out there who was part of my company. Our Flag Bearer's name was Hillary Wong. Unfortunately, I do not remember anyone else. Though I do believe there was on other individual named Ace Goodman. I could be wrong.

Anyone in company 107 1963 (February) Under HL Cutter  (I think we ended up as CUTTERS CLOWNS).  After boot I never saw but two (2)  guys in company ( one was named SMALLWOOD (who was a medic and I saw while in Balboa for knee surgery) and the other was COFFY ( I think went bowsanmate and I saw while TDY in Seattle.I  went directly to NAS North Island from boot.
