Naval Training Center San Diego 1976
My name is Phil Mercuri. I was assigned to company 130 and was Squad Leader #4. Is there anyone out there who was part of my company. Our Flag Bearer's name was Hillary Wong. Unfortunately, I do not remember anyone else. Though I do believe there was on other individual named Ace Goodman. I could be wrong.

I'll bet more that that.. In the 60's they were pushing about 10 companies a month..
We moved out of our barracks and they were waiting in line to find their bunk. That was 67..
Once I find something out tomorrow I'll post it on here!
Let's see, they commissioned her in 49 and closed her down in 91. That's 42 years of how many recruits passing through those gates? My guess is there has to be at least a half a million!
From everything I can find out currently, they still are up in the air about her! The developer has turn over responsibility to the NTC Foundation. They want to turn her into a museum. It appears there is not enough veteran involvement. May be we should start a campaign on here! Actually, I think we should start a command for her here! Maybe we can get enough Navy vets interested in having an input on her future!
I sure hope they kept that sign! I am going to try and contact the NTC Foundation tomorrow and see what I can find out.
There were a lot of us that spent little or no time on the TDE-1! Those of us that were in the band, flag team or choir rarely did.
I found this photo someone took last year from a view we would all remember! All those trips across that bridge! For many of us the old wooden bridge!
Would you believe I went through boot camp without going through the gas chamber OR getting aboard the TDE1? The chamber was down either for repairs or maintenance. I don't know why we didn't use the TDE1.
I know we all remember this sign!
I'm wondering what happened to it! I sure hope it was not destroyed and that they kept it for the museum. How many thousands of recruits saw that as they got off the bus?
