  • The very first time I saw this ship was in 1980-when I had to go to my first ship-carrier while aboard VAQ-131 on the USS INDEPENDENCE. I hated Norfolk Va. This ship was the newest nuc---and the most talked about because of her involvement with being the flagship backing a couple of tragic operations that should never had been executed.
