USS FORT FISHER was the last ship in the ANCHORAGE-class of Dock Landing Ships and also the first ship in her class decommissioned.

My Time On The Fort

Hey  Shipmates!  I was on the Fort from early 1979 until sometime in 1980.  I made a West Pac on here ('79).  I was an IC-man (made E-5 on the ship).  Dennis Fields was the LPO.  I transferred to the Prairie (AD-15) next.  I late went to Officer Candidate School and got out of the Navy as an O-3E.  As an Officer, I served on the Sterett (CG-31) which was stationed in Subic Bay!  I remember the GMs shooting sharks and swimming in the well deck.  One time we carried some Seals somewhere and we…
