The mission of the USS John F Kennedy Project is to preserve and interpret their principal artifact, the super carrier USS John F Kennedy in order to educate and entertain the public while serving as a constant reminder to future generations of the sacrifices of those who have gone before. The carrier will be the principal element of a self-sufficient Heritage and Technology Park in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island.  Read more at the USS John F Kennedy Project web site.

  • i was onboard for the 82 82 indian ocean cruise ( e ribbon for service off lebanon)worked in r div forward headshop i bought my father lane helm on the tiger cruise at the end of the tour.
  • I was onboard for the 80-81 Med cruise. I was attached to VA-46. Great memories of that cruise and the people on board.
  • Picture here is my wife and daughter. I made the deployment "83"-"84" assigned to VA-85.
  • Al Brannon, I suppose you knew PR2 Larry Phyllis? He was a friend hat I met during my trip to catch up with Big John in the Med following boot leave. I recall someone caught a bird on-board and ran put it in the LOX converter test stand and ran it up to altitude. Do you have any contact information for Larry?

    I was there too.

  • I served on board in 1993-1994 going to NYC for Fleet Week, St Thomas and Med. Cruise spending Christmas in France.
  • Went to sea with VS21 on the first S3A deployment to sea on Big John 1975. I worked in A.I.M.D. IM3 Division. I was aboard when the USS Belknap crashed into us amid ship port side about 10:00 pm Med time. November 22nd 1975 the same day JFK was shot in Dallas. That one made me think for awhile. It was very sad because of the loss of life that night. But the Big John came home finally.
  • I served aboard "BIG JOHN" briefly in the 70's. I reported aboard in early November 1975 and was suppose to be in an OJT type scenerior with the RM's. BUT ships company was short on pers. and I was assigned to the 2nd Div. in Deck. When my orders came around for RM "A" school I was a highly motivated SA to advance and pass all my training. Anyway, I was aboard when the USS Belknap CTG26 collided with us. 1st and 2nd Div. spent three days painting Big John in Augusta Bay Sicily.
  • I was with VA-85 when we came over from CVW-17 on the Forrestal and joined CVW-3 on the Big John in Feb 1983. Spent mosta that whole year and 5 months into '84 aboard her doing work-ups, Ocean Safari, United Effort, and the Carribbean/ Eastern Med cruise. Oh, man, I will NEVER forget crossing the line, when I, a lowly pollywog, became a trusty Shellback! And then, Rio de Janiero! Ah, Rio.......! Anyway, I worked TAD in AIMD, work center 64D, the FLIR shop, or, as some called it, the LASER shop. I remember many times working 24 hour or more shifts when we were off Beirut. And then Wayne Newton came out, then Bob Hope and company during Christmas. Thanks for the memories...
  • I was the E-Division yeoman during the 1980-1981 Med Cruise and the 1981-1982 Med/Indian Ocean Cruise, and also worked in Engineering Log Room.

ANYONE ELSE THERE?

22NOV1975 flight ops off the coast NW coast of Sicily. It is just a few minutes past 2200 we have just heard the evening prayer from the Chaplain, and the collision alarm starts sounding. The USS John F Kennedy suddenly rocks sharply to the starboard side. The GQ alarm is sounding. I am 18 yrs. old and aboard my first ship for just 3 weeks. My GQ station is REPAIR 3, the after mess-decks. "Time Plus 4, set ZEBRA". Somehow the USS Belknap CTG-26 has collided with us. Many lives were lost that…
