I also am a Plank Owner from GW. If memory serves me correctly, I was AQC Moeller's Division Officer in IM-3 Division. I served onboard in AIMD from January 1992 to March 1994, when I transferred to COMNAVAIRLANT. Being a part of the Pre-Comm crew and putting together a division from scratch was quite an experience. The crew had a great attitude, and I think we got the ship off to a great start.
I was stationed on the GW for a short period of time due to being looked at for FCCM once and not getting selected and the next year I went into High Year Tenure (HYT) for a FCCS is 26 years. I was the LCPO for CS7 Divison.
I served in Reactor department, RL division. I was one of the last plankowners to depart the ship. I left the Washington in January of 1995 and went on to Nuclear Power Traning Command. Being on board for everything from construction to sea trials thru the maiden deployment was an experience I'll never forget.
I am a Plankowner of the GW. I have a lot of blood, seat and tears invested in that ship. I also retired off the GW on September 30th, 1993, which was the last Friday before the ship took off for its maiden cruise. On Monday, I went to the pier and watched as it pulled out. Somewhat an emotional time.
As a member of the pre-commissioning crew, we all went through a bunch of training before boarding the ship. We went through all the sea trials and system tests. The day of commissioning was July 4th, 1992 if memory serves. It was the second proudest day of my career (the first was the day I put on the "Hat").
