  •  Randolfo, I was also working at Crane Hill from 65-66. I was an ETR and worked on some of the RADAR systems, RADAR repeaters, the mapping system. I was also responsible for the digital door locks. I also spent most of my free time in the water (still do!). I was working at NSD Communications prior to that. I was living at Bay Hill when I first got there, Moved to a house on Admin Hill and then to a barracks at the Naval Air Station. My company did business with the military in Guantanamo Bay for a number of years starting in 2005. brought back a lot of memories.  --  Gary

  • I am not familiar with the Pig Pen & Stop Light.  When was Doug Nichols there?

  • Great place for memories - Radio Hill - Fuel Farm - Barrel Club -Leeward Pointer (Quonset Hut) - Pig Pen - Tank Farm - Spitting Toads - Scorpion Stings - Olympia Beer - 'This is a Stop Light' (stop light - just in case).  NAVSTA was ok - but NAS was a hoot!!!

  • I don't want to be too repetitive, but some of you folks should consider attending our 2013 Guantanamo Bay Reunion in Chattanooga.  It will be October 6-10, and you can get details at our website www.gitmobay.org.  We always have a great time and new people join us every year.  It doesn't matter when you served on THE ROCK, come and have fun.

  • I was stationed at Crane Hill with the Naval Security Group while at Gtmo in 1965 to 1967 and lived in the Bay Hill Barracks for 6 months until my family was able to come to Gtmo. I remember the Khaki shorts uniform and visiting the Barrell Club. Most of all I remember the giant Iguanas who would wander into the club seeking food.

Gitmo, 1968-1969

I arrived here from Norfolk in January of 1968 and departed in August of 1969. I was a commissaryman 3rd class petty officer (cook) at Bay Hill Galley. When working the steam kettles I often had a wet towel around my neck to help stay cool. I lived in a separate barracks across from the galley for all the cooks called the “cook shack.” We had a small patio behind the barracks where we sat in the evenings and told stories and sang country music. Being a cook had some advantages as we could go…

My Time in GTMO

I was in GTMO from April 1969 to April 1970. I worked at the O2 N2 generating plant that was adjacent to the Fuel Farm on Leeward Point. We didn't live in the barracks, we stayed in a Quonset hut right at the site. We worked for Chief Charlie Sullivan. Looking back I would say the time spent there was pretty enjoyable
