After my leave was up I had a friend drive me to Seattle, and got a flight to San Diego. I arrived at the airport in San Diego, and took a city bus to the Naval Station on 32nd st. The Bus stopped at the main gate and I got off and checked in with the Marine on duty. He gave me directions to where the ship was berthed. After about twenty minutes of walking I got to all the ships and made my way to pier 8. As I approached I got my first look at the USS Vancouver. She looked so tall standing on the pier and looking up toward the bridge. I proceed to the ladder and walk up to the top and I saluted the Quarterdeck and OOD and ask for permission to come aboard.
