  • welcome to the site tom great pics
  • Hi Tom; we bascially did the same thing, but we also used chainfalls, com - a - longs to pull off the ships compressers, motors, etc so the shop that takes care of them fixes them. Once they are fixed, tested, then we rig them back onboard the ship and the lead shop reattaches them to the ship's engine room or electrical room. It was a 3 year tour at the Naval Station San Diego and it was fun.
  • Hi Tommy,
It's finally cheaper than California to live in Hawaii. The Governator here is raising taxes, double vehicle registrations,a new wine tax, raising state taxes by another point and it just never ends here. Property taxes are threw the roof here and crime isn't getting any better either.
  • Hi Tommy,
Thanks for posting on my wall. I get to go through the restricted areas of Pearl Harbor every year and a lot of people today don't know how many ships sunk during the attack and I will try to get some more pictures next month and show you guys what I'm talking about. I'm taking my laptop and digital cameras so that I can post some pics.
  • Tom,
Please give it another try. I think the "NING" people were doing some system maintenance.

  • Tommy,
I found the NSA patch on a web site called Camp Tien Sha. A Mark Lemmon set up the site. It also had a lot of pictures of the area and buildings. I was on the LCU-1481 from Sept. of 67 to April of 68 so we probably missed each other by a few years. You have a nice page here. It is always nice to chat with someone that was in the same places as me.

  • Tom,
I was on the Midway from 1982-1986, and really hated GQ like everyone else. I mostly worked nights and GQ was always held during the day time screwing up what little sleep I would get. I did at one time have a great Skipper who understood the difficulties of working night shift, so he would mix it up and do one GQ during the day and one at night taking turns.

Member Dues for the CPOA is $3.00 a month for retirees. It's not worth your while or cost in fuel to drive out here for it at all. I just thought if you ever visited Fallon to use the commissary, maybe you could plan your shopping trip on the first Thursday of the month. We get an old Master-At-Arms Master Chief who drives in from Reno with an old BMCS buddy of his every once in a while (depending on health). As retirees we just sit in the back and listen, at times will call "Shananigans" when they say something stupid, or at a time that someone needs to say somthing but doesn't have the guts to do it.

If you like to send me your email address I will have them ass you to the CPOA email list so you can see whats going on in the mess. My direct e-mail address is: info@TCIPP.com

Here's a website you may be interested in, it's called Navy Together We Served. It like Navy MySpace and it allows you to search for old shipmates who have their own profiles. You can search by name or by command. It's free for the first year so you can decide if you like it before you have to pay $20.00 for following years.

  • Hi Tom,
Thanks for contacting me. Sorry I get soooo many spam emails I missed yours message on my work computer. I enjoyed my tour on the Midway working on F-4 Phantoms, however I hated working on the F-4 because it was so machinacally unfriendly and always broken.

I apprciate the work you guys in Fernley did for the flag poles at the Veterans cemetery. I've been out there a few times to walk the grounds and my buddies from the Seabees were the ones who installed them. Have they ever gotten the lights set up so we can see the flags from Highway 80 at night yet?

FYI: If you retired as an E-7 or above we have our monthly CPOA meetings the first Thursdays of the month.

    Thank you for your service!
