  • Hi, Paul!  I see you want to write a book.  OK, the way I write is to write as if you were telling a friend about what happened and try and include exciting details in the work so it isn't a "sleeper".  Read my blog stories and see what I'm talking about.  The book I wrote was about my life with a canoe and included parts about our little canoe jaunt down the Willamette River while we were in the Sea Explorers.  I am trying to get my three years worth of work into print and on the book stores shelves now.

  • Hi, Paul:

One of the best ways to start, if you find staring at the computer hard, is to get a small digital recorder and just tell stories!  Helps if you are at happy hour and have a swig of beer or two, if you are so inclined :-)  Then...that digital file can be converted to a word document.    Some people are better at verbal story telling.

But get your thoughts down.   Rarely do I write an outline.  But a good story does have a pattern.  Sounds silly but must have a strong catchy beginning.  Struggle.  Then super end!  Feel free to contact me by email for more ideas.  :-)

  • Welcome Aboard, Paul!

I'm Bill Karr. My son Doug created this site and I help him out a bit. We hope that you enjoy it.

The following message is from Doug:
    1. Be sure to upload an image of yourself. You can add your image on your Footlocker.
    2. Click the Commands tab and search for your commands so that you can join them and add them to your page! This is how other shipmates will find you.
    3. Invite all your shipmates!
    4. Don't hesitate to add an event or a reunion to the Events tab!
    5. We've also started Commands for each State. Be sure to join or add your own state!

I give out gifts often for those folks who participate on Navy Vets! Be sure to start up a blog post or two and tell us all about your time in the Navy!

    Thanks,
    Doug
