"I reported onboard as an ML2. ML1 John Kappes was in charge and ML2 Rey Pamolo was the LPO and there was an mlfn in the shop too but I can't remember his name. I made ML1 on there and ended up running the shop when ML1 kappes retired"

Hi Mike: I left the Cable the day it pulled into Charleston and went to the Puget Sound for the 3rd time and it went to Italy to be the 6th Fleet Flag Ship. My family also went over there and we stayed for three years. It was great. I then got trans. to Pensacola Fl. to wright the new ML 3 and 2 and the ML 1 and C. I did that in one year and got trans. to Mayport Fl. for another year. Then got orders to the Naval Reserve Center in St. Petersburg Fl and I retired from there as a Chief Molder. We have been living in Dunedin Fl. sence then. My Son is now in the Navy and is a YN1 stationed at Central Command at Mac Dill Air Force Base in Tampa Fl. He and his wife live in Dunedin. He has nine years in and will be going up for Chief next year. I am very proud of him. And how are you doing. Did you retire or get out? Let me know. Have you married and do you have any children? I am still driving flatbeds for Roehl Transport. I really enjoy it as I get all over the U.S. I have been able to see several old Navy Buddies in my travels. I will probably drive another 10 years if I still can.

I rode the Sierra from May 1985 thru Jan 1987. I was ML1 at the time, until I made MLC. Larry Watford was the MLC when I came onboard.

I worked in the foundry, too. Other guys there were Fulkerson, Henderson, Broussard, Watson, Vega, and others. If I ever get off my a$$, I have some pictures of the crew and one of the projects we made. It was a valve cover for a large marine diesel.

Welcome to the group. I was on the Holland, also. I rode her from Rota to Charleston in '74.
