  • Hi Lindsey,

I was stationed at Camp Lejuene Naval Hospital, Building 15, did a relief at the Rifle Range, and worked the last few months of my first enlistment at CorFac 1041.

In 1977, I participated in the Base Talent Contest and wond the contest.  I also helped with the Marine Corps Boxing Team, the interservice boxing matches were at Lejeune in 1976 just before the AAU Championships and then the Olympics.  I knew Leon Spinks, and MGySgt Saunders fairly well as I was there corpsman.  Norm Vandeveer who worked the information desk at the hospital during the day (a civilian) was an AAU referee and he was the one who told MGuns Saunders to talk to me and it was a good fit.

I got out of the Navy in 1985, I worked at Balboa Naval Hospital prior to going with the Marines and I helped with the open hearts at Balboa, and that is really the work I wanted to do. I worked at several hospitals in San Diego and worked for a perfusion company in Bakersfield for several years - the hope was I would be able to go to perfusion school which didn't pan out.  I was a good worker and I worked all the time and the other two got to attend the pre req classes, so my wife and I moved back to San Diego and I worked in heart rooms there.

As I said before, I am also a professional musician and you can check out a couple of videos on YouTube.  I was playing at the Del Mar Fair in San Diego and taped myself in 2008.  I played the fair for 19 years.  My wife passed away in 2002 from cancer, so life has not been the same for me.  Her ashes are interred at Fort Rosecrans, and when I die that's where my ashes will go.
