"Hi Paul, I was on the southside also from 1968 to 1971. At first I was in the old WW II barracks but I am sure they are long gone. Half of that time I lived off base both in Munford and in Millington. Sorry I don't know any of those names you…"
When I was there, NTTC Personnel and Finance still operated out of those old wooden WWII "stilt" buildings. When I visited the base back around 1990, all that was gone. There was a new school where Personnel and Finance were. The ADJ school was gone. The exchange and bowling alley were still there as was the ole Blue and Gold theater. Had to stop in; some changes but the pool hall was still there! There was a McDonald's where one of the chapels was. The EM Club was still, but we didn't go in. My barracks was still there, but everything else ( like the Marine Commandant's Office) was gone. Seems like a lot of the student's barracks were gone or changed. Just didn't look the same somehow.
Welcome aboard Karen! I see you were a PN in Memphis. I was a PN on "Southside" (the NTTC side) from 1977 to early 1978. I lived in the barracks straight across the Marine Commandant's Office. Did you know a Lt Dote, Chief Putnam, or PN1 Justin Perkins? I believe that Commander Ford was the one in charge if I remember correctly.
