Yes, I am very familiar with the Hong Kong paint job! I saw it happen TWICE while I was aboard USS Hector. What a mess! Our Deck Department didn't like it because it started to flake off after about a week.
Nice page! I was in Hong Kong in'72 as well. I never saw your ship, but sure saw a lot of ones just like her.
You get a few sea stories on here and it will be a good place to stop and look over!
