  • Thanks for the warm welcome...

  • Thank you brother. Was a Aviation Storekeeper, attached to VP19. Deployed to Adak in 1969. and was assigned tad to base supply. Found VP19 in one photo on a wall but not our Squadron Patch, nor could I find any photos of VP19, nor our hanger or working spaces. At least I have my cruse book. Did you see the photo of the P@ that was wrecked on take off, then came down too fast, collapsing her nose gear? I was there when that happened, and many of my squadron donated clothing to the crew of the downed bird. No one was hurt badly, bit they lost all of their belongings. They were coming back from their West Pac tour.

  • So glad to be apart of this group.

  • Thanks David,

my parents came from Holland. I am the only child born in America. I joined the Navy in Aug 26, 1968, discharged Aug 25, 1972.  After boot camp, I was stationed on the USS Kearsarge CVS33.  Did a West PAC tour.

When it got decommissioned, I went to Radioman school.  After that I got stationed to AFSOUTH, Naples Italy.  I worked under a mountain called PROTO.  I got discharged in Naples and went to Holland to meet my relatives.

    Am a retired Electrician now.

  • thanks David  I might have one or two glad to be here

  • Hi David ... Bootcamp for me was in GLakes.  Enlisted on Nov 28th, 1968.  Bootcamp started early December but I've forgotten what company.

  • Thanks for the Welcome David,

I have been on a lot of different ships in the time I spent mostly TAD. My favorite Mid Watch was on the Lamoure Cty when I cut my teeth as a QMSN getting my quals done for promotion. We were off the coast of Cape Hatteras, N.C riding on the back of a Hurricane doing 50 degree rolls. The QMSC had pinned himself under the Chart Desk holding a fire pot and evacuating contents he probably had eaten 3 years before. I was hanging with a death grip on the roll bars above the chart desk with one hand and plotting radar bearings on the chart with my other.

I never got sick but there were times I thought was our death roll. I look back on that time now and realize...it was some of the greatest moments of my life!

    Stay true!

    Paul

  • Thanks for the WELCOME ABOARD David Deroy, During my 4 year enlistment '68-'72 I was stationed at Whiting Field, Milton Florida for the first 2 years, working as a stock clerk at the O club, then on to the fuels division, running the quality control of the AV GAS for the base where I advanced to the rate of ABF3.  Then onto the USS ENTERPRISE CVAN 65 assigned to the V-4 division working the flight deck. The remainder of my enlistment which included a westpac deployment to Vietnam 71-72.  As was said before my time spent in the U.S. Navy becomes more nostalgic as time passes.  I was fortunate to have worked for and with some very special people and have many lasting memories.

  • Thank you.  San Diego RTC, then ET'A' school at Treasure Island, and Crypto school at Mare Island Naval Shipyard before going to Guam.

  • Thanks for the welcome. The Peoria was a fine ship before she was sunk for target practice. However, she did manage to come out briefly in the Pearl Harbor movie.
