"Yeah I was in Basic at Gt Lakes 1962 Company 121 and cannot find a KEEL anywhere..It's like it never happened...but I know it did ....since I learned a whole new bunch of swear words...:)"

I hear you Charles....I think we were in at the right time for training and a less PC Navy, but we whould have to be in twenty years later for the better pay. I got out in '63...E5 with over four years plus overseas pay at 205,00/mo. A while back I saw a girl talking about what she made as an E-4 on shore duty....1350.00/mo. I think she said it was in the early eighties.A good friend of mine, from Japan, stayed in and retired in '79 as RMC E=7 with a retirement of 2400.00/mo. I have no idea what they are making now, but the atmosphere in the Navy is so strict I wouldn't want to be there..We had fun then..It seems to just be a job now run by the policital correctness folks...
I know what you mean Charles...I went on the McKean in '60 after RM"A" school in SD and stayed a year ( it was trashed in, I think '73, After the McKean, I was stationed at the Naval Radio REceiving Fac. in Kami Seya, Japan for two years...Great time there..In ninety three they closed that base and sent everyone up to Masawa Japan. 171" of snow a year they say. Kami was taken over again by the Japanese, but I think the air station at Asunge is still use it for some personel berthing...Ain't nothing the same in the Navy any more. I am a member on a Radioman site on facebook and I don't know a darn thing they are talking about today..There are still a few old RM;s still alive on there and we talk using the code...The rest of they have only heard about it. ha ha, I think we were in the Navy at just the right time...
Hang in there Sailor... I was in JULY 59 to Aug 63 and still here..I seem to remember the Osborn...DD right? I was on the McKean DDR-784 Desron 13 '60-61
