Funny how things happen. I Dad got to high school in Denton schools and moved to Dallas to finish High School. After ww11 he was at the va hospital up your for a while. My GrandFather had a farm up there and on below Mesquite and a produce business in Dallas
until he passed away. and my GrandMother finally sold bot5h of the farms. The Denton land was off of Garza-little elm up there. Great goose hunting....
Western Union......I think every one I knew who had military coms experience went to work at WU at one time or another...Best money I heard about except being mostly night work available back in my time. I went by to interview when I got out and some little ole lady told me there was no positions available at the time but she would keep me in mind and call if anything opened up...Well on the way home, I stopped on Buckner Blvd to see if i could get on at Continental Electronics and found out my Sunday School Teacher worked there so I got a job before I left the place. When I got home it was just afew minutes till the phone was ringing and it was the little lady at Wester Union. I told her I had taken a job on the way home and she tried to get me to call them and not take the job as she needed a teletype operator...I didn't do that and she got fired up at me....ha About a year and a half later I quit CE and started college at ETSU in Commerce. and somehow in 1985 my wife and I moved to Batesville Mississippi where I have been until now...She wanted to come home and be with her Mother who was in bad health and I got stuck here...I saw a tee shirt a while back that read.."My home is Mississippi, but I have Texas Roots" and that fits me to a tee.. Well I have written a book for you...sorry...Take care and again thanks for responding....Gene
Heck Bill I just saw you were a Texas also...I grew up around Mesquite south of Dallas
Must be my lucky day with you being a Texan and RM also...Good to have you on here. It has gotten a bit slow in the last couple of years on my sites and I just happened to check on this one today after being off for several months with some surgery...We will have to exchange some sea stories sometime....take care
Hello Sparks... I started Boot in SD on Sept 1 1959 and RM "A" school three months later. Stationed on the USS McKean DDR-784 from 60 to summer of 61...then to NRRF (NDT) kAMI SEYA, Japan for the rest of my time..(Great duty over there) Made RM2 and
almost had enough time to take first class test, but couldn't get them to let me extend
for a year to see if I could make it...so I got out and went to college in Texas. Loved being an RM.. Welcome aboard.....
