Thanks Douglas,

Looking forward to sharing and chatting. I would like to add the USS Orleck to the Command page as we are currently making Her into a Naval Museum. I'll eventually get my "sea legs" and learn how to navigate through all this.

Thanks for the add in the group. Yes I am Daves friend. He told me about this tonight so I had to check it out.

Hey, Thanks for setting up the web site. I just received a call from the former president of the National Assault Craft Veterans Association. He thinks that I am recruiting veterans away from the NACVA (of which I am a member). I don't think he understands that I was just connecting with other vets from Idaho. Anyway I guess because I blogged about one of my NACVA reunions when you do search for the NACVA up comes this web site and he thinks I am in competition with them. Hope to clear this up by sending out a few emails. Again, thanks for your website.

I was on the Cleveland (LPD-7) and a member of the Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club just prior to and during Project Endsweep as an HT3.

Ashes sent up here will be Honorably handled.  Don't need to do that unless you really want to.  Where would you like them placed?

Doug, it was with mixed emotions that I received your email about your father's passing. Sad in that he will be truly missed - I was touched by the welcoming post he made on my wall when I joined NavyVets over three years ago, happy that he is at rest with the Lord. I shall remember him in my prayers at Mass next weekend. May he rest in peace, and may all of his family be comforted by knowing that he is now in a much better place.

Doug, my heart is with you and your family.  Your DAD was a CHIEF and as a retired CHEIF I feel he was a great man.

You were lucky to be with your dad when he passed.  I was up here at home in Alaska when mine went.

Keep your memories alive and tell your kids about when you were a kid and all you did when you and your dad were together.

Remember him often.

GOD rest you, Bill Karr.

I am sure he will say what we all heard a number of times,"You don't salute a working man!"

But this is one of those times where it is not only appropriate, but deserved and call for!

ATTENTION ON DECK! CHIEF KARR PRESENT!

HAND SALUTE!

Lots of us OLD sailors were not in when the IT rates came along ...and still like to be referred to as RADIOMEN anyway. Can you help???  Thanks

Hi Doug.

Not trying to mind your business, but I have a comment that I would like you to consider.

I am a member of 10 groups on this site and only two of them get a lot of play. RTC San Diego and Mess Decks. I think if we listed the Rate of Members on their profiles it would be easier to connect with an individual and invite them to a particular Group..ie Naval Comminucations etc I have found a few Radiomen and chatted back and forth with them, but most are unaware of the Naval Communications group. You know "Birds of a feather flock together" and maybe our members would find it easier to hookup with those of like backgrounds with the RATE tag on the profile.  Just a thought......

Hi, I was on the john f kennedy in the 80s in norfolk, I had a brother that was on the sound from 1988-1990. When I returned from med in feb 1989, he left for a 4 or 5 month deployment med/IO cruise till june of 1989. I was wondering, what were the ports the sound hit during that cruise? Thanks, james
