VA Home Loans

Not too long ago we applied for a VA home loan pre-qualification with a company that has advertised on this site.  After several phone conversations and e-mails back and forth I was told that because of a significant hit on my credit rating I was not eligible for a VA loan.  The company 'Veterans United Home Loan" would not work with me to overcome or fix or whatever the right word is.

I took this as an insult (my wife say I take too many things personally).  After a life style change (retirement from a Fire Dept) and taking a new job in a different state we decided to buy a house.  We still own one in FL but now live in NC.  Being told I was not credit worthy with the VA was a blow and we stopped looking, deciding to spend our money on other things.

Well to make a long story longer (as a friend of mine says) we were convinced to talk to a local mortgage broker who has worked with us, giving us advice and being very positive about other type of loans other than VA we are looking again.

My two cents is to not deal with companies like this over the internet.  Go to a local mortgage broker and work with someone local.

Thanks for letting me spout off.  I feel better.

  • Did the VA itself tell you that you're ineligible? Request they reconsider. You earned this benefit thru your service. I think there are way too many "VA mortgage companies" that don't have clue what they're doing. You are correct in working with a local mortgage broker - my ex got a better deal with one than if he had dealt directly with the mortgage company.
