I remember some pretty horrid details. The radiomen were screaming on secure voice about specifics. Body parts all over the deck. Fire,explosions, and all they wanted was help. I truly wished I could do more. I spent the entire 12 hour watch talking to a fellow RM that I will never know.
Pam, what do you remember about that night? We didnt get to bed till next evening we had about 80 wounded and 15 dead. Of course woman were not. Allowed on board at that time. Not sure how it works today. We had to use the head to identify our dead and of course after 3 days in port we were back at sea. But minus 300 guys they went home and didn't want to come back, I didn't blame them it was a huge fire with 500lb bombs and missiles going off and no where to hide.
